Emerald Spire Flowering Crabapple

This crabapple flowers in the mid spring with purplish pink flowers (bordering on rusty red) followed by dark green foliage in summer. It produces smaller, reddish-orange fruit that generally are not eaten though can be cooked and sweetened into sauce or jelly. The branches are quite dense and grow nearly vertically. This unusual growth pattern makes this crabapple great for narrow spaces between other trees.
