The Criterion apple was discovered as a chance seedling near Parker, WA in 1968 and is descended from the Golden Delicious, Red Delicious, and Winter Banana apples. It initially gained popularity due to is lovely shape and saturated yellow gold color that blushes to a light rose color. It is firm, large, and can store for up to several weeks. The tree is resistant to scab and hardy to -30.

This apple is a great all around apple used primarily eaten fresh. The flesh is white, resists browning, and is tart and tangy. Other uses include baking due to its slow browning, and cider production.
