This bright green, glossy skinned pear is one of the most easily recognizable pears. Similar shape to a Bartlett but with a shorter neck. Despite being named for a region in the south of France, the Anjou Pear comes from either Belgium or northern France where the pear was able to grow in its northern climates. Either way, this pear is deliciously sweet and juicy. Unlike its Bartlett counterpart, this pear does not turn red when ripe, instead staying green throughout its life. Chefs like this pear due to is relative availability being grown all over the world and its ability to transport well. The pear is crunchy and sweet with the tiniest hint of tartness.
