Tolman Sweet

A New England heirloom whose early lineage remains a mystery. The earliest reports of its existence date back to before 1700. The medium to large apples have pale yellow skin with russet lines surrounding sweet, white flesh. The apples are used primarily for baking, stewing, and cider production. The trees are very hardy and other apple varieties were often grafted to their rootstocks.
