Also called NY109, known colloquially as the Firecracker Apple, is a 2020 Cornell University Apple Breeding Problem release. The apple is smaller than a baseball and is very elongated. Its skin is a deep ruby color that matches its deep red flesh. It is traditionally used for fresh eating, baking, but is excellent in cider. The juice is an opaque red color that is tart to the taste the mellows before swallowed. The apple's flavor is said to be constantly evolving and changes through the eating and drinking process. The tree does not grow very large, even on large rootstock and weeps slightly.
