Connel Red
Tom Connell discovered this apple on his orchard in Menominee, WI! Finally available to the public in 1956 the apple is closely related to its parent the Fireside Apple though it almost certainly a sport of Fireside. Tree is moderately vigorous the tends to spread upright. Prune annually to prevent biennialism.
The apple is very large and yellow but blushes to a strong and color red overlaid with yellow streaks and lenticels. In shadier areas, it can be greenish with a pink lush. Its flesh is creamy colored and softer with a fine grain. It is highly aromatic with hints of bananas- the esters in apples and bananas are similar in shape. The apple is generally sweet with little tartness or acidity.
