Samaritan Dogwood
This variegated tree is a perfect understory tree. This tree dogwood grows best in partial shade and offers different treats for gardeners across several seasons. In Spring, it opens wavy variegated leaves. In Summer, it grows seeds that are similar to acorns but are soft and egg shell in color. Surrounding these seeds is a four point flower about 2" long and slowly turn a dappled magenta when exposed to sunlight. Then, in fall, the seeds turn a bright magenta color and stay on the tree until late fall when the tree sheds its leaves and seeds and goes dormant. A picture is truly worth a thousand words for this tree and will delight any homeowner.
