The Burr oak is a large, long-lived deciduous tree that is native to North America. It is known for its impressive size, beautiful shape, and hardy nature. Commonly known as the mossycup oak due to the distinctive mossy cups that form on the acorns. The Burr oak produces acorns that are the largest of any native North American oak species. The acorns are large and round, with a distinctive mossy cap that covers the nut. They are an important food source for a variety of wildlife, including squirrels, deer, and birds.

It is known for its hardiness, adaptability, and resistance to many diseases and pests that can affect other oak species. It is a slow-growing tree, but can live for hundreds of years, making it a valuable addition to any landscape. The bark of the Burr oak is thick, rough, and deeply furrowed, with a gray-brown coloration. The leaves of the tree are large, with a distinctive shape that resembles a classic oak leaf. They are dark green in color and turn a beautiful golden-yellow in the fall.
