Developed at the University of Minnesota Agriculture Research Center by crossing a Golden Delicious with a cold-hardy Haralson. The result was a Golden Delicious style apple that was suitable for far northern zones. The golden yellow skin surrounds a creamy yellow flesh that has a pronounced but not overwhelming pear flavor. Skins turns bright yellow to golden red when ripe. Overall, the apple is mildly tart but very juicy. Very similar to golden delicious but smaller. Stories have it that the Honeygold is a parent of the legendary Honeycrisp but this is actually not the case. A moderately vigorous grower and easy to care for. These apples can store well for up to 3 months.
