The Caroline raspberry is a vigorous, everbearing red raspberry variety that grows into upright bushes typically 4–6 feet tall with a similar spread, making it suitable for garden beds or rows. Its canes produce abundant large, firm, bright red berries with a rich, sweet flavor and subtle tartness that’s excellent for fresh eating, jams, baking, freezing, and preserves. The fruiting season starts in late summer and can continue almost until frost in many climates, giving a long window for harvest.
Caroline is also noted for good disease resistance, particularly to root rot and common raspberry molds, which helps it stay productive with relatively low maintenance. It performs best in full sun and well-drained, fertile soil and is hardy across a wide range of conditions, generally in USDA zones 4–9. The plant’s white blossoms in spring attract pollinators, while its vigorous growth habit ensures high yields compared with many other everbearing raspberries.
The bright red color and firm texture of the berries hold up well in cooking and processing as well as fresh eating. While drought isn’t ideal, consistent moisture encourages the best fruit size and flavor. Overall, Caroline is a popular choice for home gardeners seeking a dependable, flavorful raspberry with a long harvest season. Raspberry plants are sold in packs of three (3).
