Unlike the name suggests, Black Twig apples are neither black nor are they twig shaped. Found by chance in Tennessee in the 1830s, this apple was the premier dessert apple in the South for many years. Primarily used in tarts and pies due to its yellow color and fine grain. High in Tannic Acid- this apples adds a delicious kick to ciders. The skin is thick and chewy and very high in fiber with a green base blushed with red as it ripens. The apple benefits from storing for a couple of weeks to mellow out the texture and flavor.
