This Midwestern (Indiana) Heirloom apple was discovered on David Flory's orchard in the mid-1870s and became commercially available in 1890. The apple has two distinguishing factors. One, it smells and tastes like bananas. Two, it has a very pronounced pentagonal shape demonstrated in the images. Its thin skin is pale green in color that often blushes to a pink red color. The apples ripens later than other apples and is partially self-fertile.

The tree is moderately vigorous and spreading with some natural disease resistance but spray to keep fire blight away. Where the Banana flavor really shines is when the apple is pressed for cider.
