Bred at the Department of Agriculture in Western Australia in 1970 by researcher John Cripps. He crossed the red Australian apple Lady Williams with the Golden Delicious to create the original Pink Lady® variety: the Cripps Pink®. First introduced to the US in the 1990s, the Pink Lady® apple has become extremely popular in the US.
The apple has a distinctive pink hue covering a green base. It is uniform in shape and size with bright white flesh. The apple is both sweet and tart with a crispy bite. Great for lunches and tarts, the apple is slow to brown. Tree is a spur bearer and makes a great espalier tree.
