Bluebell is a cold-hardy, early-ripening grape developed through the University of Minnesota’s early 20th-century breeding program, primarily for table use as well as juice and jelly production. This seeded blue grape features a mild, fruity labrusca (Concord-like) flavor and thick, resilient skin. It produces a light red juice that is both visually appealing and well-suited for jelly or juice.
Bluebell is disease resistant and performs best in soils with a pH below 7.0, as higher pH soils may lead to iron chlorosis. Compared to Concord, Bluebell matures earlier and demonstrates superior cold hardiness while maintaining similar berry size and color.
Disease susceptibility:
• Black rot – slightly susceptible
• Downy mildew – slightly susceptible
• Powdery mildew – slightly susceptible
• Botrytis – slightly susceptible
