Popular across vineyards in the central US, the Marquette grape is often used in wine making. Its dark color and shine make a deep Merlot and Pinot Noir. Developed out of the University of Minnesota, it survives down to Zone 4 having survived temperatures down to -36F~ making it cold hardy. The grape is resistant to downey mildew but likes its space across the ground.
Best set on a trellis as the vines tends upward with arching growth habit. Highly suitable for Cordon training across higher wires. Lofty buds open early so planting areas must have good frost drainage to avoid freezing the buds.
Probably the best 'all around' grape and excellent source for red wine. Produces a dry red wine with moderate tannic for a medium body feel. Flavor or black current, pepper, and cherry. Good table wine.
