Reliance Seedless is a cold-hardy table grape, tolerating winter temperatures to approximately -25°F. Experiments show this grape is hardy to -35°F but we could not substantiate these claims. This attractive pink to red variety is valued for its delicate, mild labrusca character and consistently high sugar content. Vines are vigorous and productive, producing large, well-filled clusters of round, medium-sized, seedless berries with tender, melting texture and mild fruity flavor.
Fruit color develops from light pink to a deeper rosy red as berries fully mature. Berries have thin, easily separated skins and a juicy interior, making Reliance especially appealing for fresh eating. The high natural sugar levels also make it well suited for juices, jellies, snacks, salads, and light wine or raisin production. A single vine can produce 40–50 clusters in a season under good growing conditions.
Reliance blooms late, helping it avoid spring frost damage, and ripens mid-season, typically from late August into early September in cooler regions. Vines perform best when trained to high-wire systems and require full sun and slightly acidic soils for optimal growth. Adapted to USDA Zones 4–8, Reliance is a reliable, low-maintenance choice for home gardeners and small-scale plantings.
Originally developed by the University of Arkansas, Reliance was bred specifically for winter hardiness and productivity. While generally easy to grow, disease pressure can occur and should be managed appropriately, particularly in humid conditions.
