This hybrid variety of chestnut tree is larger, more fruitful, and far more disease resistant than its American counter part. The fruit is contained in a bizarre case that almost looks like thorns. The fruit is popular around Thanksgiving and is made into stuffing and pies. The canopy of this tree is also remarkable- it is dense and coarse providing spotless shade below.
