Northsky is a low-bush blueberry cultivar known for its exceptional cold hardiness and compact growth habit. Plants are short-statured, typically reaching 10–18 inches in height with a spread of 2–3 feet, making them ideal for container growing, borders, or group plantings. Fruit ripens around July 15, with yields averaging 1–2 pounds per plant.
Berries are small, firm, and highly flavorful, exhibiting a dusty bloom that gives them an attractive sky-blue color. Fruit stores well under refrigeration and is suitable for fresh market and U-pick operations. Harvesting is done by hand or with a blueberry rake.
Northsky offers excellent ornamental appeal. Plants produce snow-white, bell-shaped flowers in spring, followed by dense, glossy green foliage in summer and deep red leaves in autumn. The compact mounding habit provides visual interest across three seasons.
Extremely winter-hardy, Northsky can survive temperatures as low as –40°F. Maximum productivity is achieved when adequate snow cover is present. The cultivar also performs well in warmer climates, making it versatile for a range of growing conditions.
