The Polka raspberry is a vigorous primocane (everbearing) red raspberry that typically grows upright to about 4–6 feet tall with a moderately narrow spread, forming a productive shrub in berry patches and gardens. Its canes are slightly thorny but manageable, and the plant is generally robust and easy to grow in full sun with well‑drained soil.
Polka produces large, bright to deep red berries that are firm and attractive, with a classic sweet raspberry flavor that’s highly prized for eating fresh as well as freezing, baking, and preserves. Because it is an everbearing variety, it can yield fruit from late summer into autumn, giving a long harvest window compared with many summer‑only types. Polka raspberries also have good disease resistance, tolerating many common raspberry problems with relatively low maintenance, though some susceptibility to rust or other issues can occur in certain conditions.
The fruit’s firm texture and good keeping quality make it suitable not only for fresh eating but also for u‑pick gardens and small market sales where shelf life matters. Polka plants are self‑fertile, so they don’t require another variety nearby to set fruit, although pollinators like bees can still help increase yields. Their upright and vigorous habit means they fit well in rows or beds, and while they benefit from regular pruning to encourage new cane growth, they don’t typically need trellising. Raspberry plants are sold in packs of three (3).
