Smokebush Tree 'Royal Purple'

This lovely tree has deep purple leaves (especially when planted in a shady area) and can grow to about 15' tall. Generally used for ornamental purposes other than shade, the tree tends to be narrow and upright in growth habit. Its flowers are what give this tree its name. The Smokebush refers to the ultra-fine flowers and stems that are difficult to discern via the human eye. Only close inspection reveals individual branches and flowers. The effect of this is, when in bloom, the flowers blend together giving the appearance of smoke and haze around the tree. It is beautiful in the Spring but also in summer when the leave's are at peak color.
