The Hakuo Nishiki or Dappled Willow is a lovely plants often found in Midwestern gardens. The plant's main feature is its leaves. In Spring and into Summer, the new growth is a light tangerine color. As the leaf matures, the chlorophyll in the leaf slowly turns the leaf green. The process begins at one end and as the leaf ages, it turns more and more green. This gradient gives the plants a very light hue that blends well in to landscapes.
Like all willows, the Dappled Willow loves water. It can tolerate very moist soils with proper drainage. A willow with many branches can grow to heights of 12-15' The plants in the images are probably 3 years old and are the bush form of the plant.
