Developed in 1917 by Iowa State University but not released to the public until late 1960's. With parentage of Jonathan and Red Delicious it is said to be favored over both! With a later harvest time, the Chieftain is an excellent eating apple, firm, crisp, with a hint of honey sweet and keeps well.
