Eastern Red Bud
These gorgeous deciduous trees are pinched at youth to keep the stem less than 12" long and the branches are what gives the trees their height. This practice is common, especially with flowers so they produce more flowering stems. At maturity, the Red Bud Clump's branches are lined with reddish pink flowers that sprout in early spring. These blooms give way to green heart shaped leaves in the summer that turn a deep purple in fall. The Weeping Tree variety is called the 'Pink Heartbreaker' whereas the clump variety is a standard 'Eastern Red Bud.'
