Probably the reddest of all varieties- upon maturity they blush bright red color that is almost purple. Large and firm fruit ripens before most other varieties and is sweet and slightly tart. In April, the tree is flush with bright white flowers that are extraordinarily fragrant. This ripening time, while late for stone fruits, means the tree is susceptible late frosts in northern climates. The tree can usually handle these temperatures but the flowers cannot freeze. The pit is on the larger side but is freestone.

When the fruits are the size of grapes, thin them out so that there is one fruit every 4 to 6 inches along the branch. This will help increase the size of the remaining fruit and maintain the health of the tree.
