Grafted from trees at 1913 Kickapoo's Orchard~ this apple is cold hardy and makes a great pie. The apple is quite large, nearly 4" across and is very flat and irregularly shaped. Its skin is thin making for an easy bite and the white to creamy flesh is biting giving the overall apple a satisfying crunch. It is soft with just a touch of tartness making this apple great for sauces and pies.

We tend to think of it as a calmer Granny Smith (which ripens around the same time) for those who like tart but not too tart. Under proper storage this apple keeps rather well but try to use it within 2 months to maintain the crispiness. Supposedly this is a relative of the also heirloom Newell's Orange.
