The Otterson is a cross between the Fameuse x Niedzwetzkyana (the ancestor of almost all modern red fleshed apples). A very tart red fleshed crabapple. It is primarily used as an ornamental tree with cider making potential. It produces a highly astringent yet red color juice when squeezed and is best blended with other juices. The tree is disease resistant and a vigorous grower. Very similar to Dolgo in shape and color. The lineage of this tree makes it very cold hardy.
